✦ Aftercare

This is just a general guide for folks I have tattooed! Everyone's skin is different, so your healing process might vary. 🙏 Please reach out on Instagram (@misspokestattoo) or email if you have questions.

What you'll need:

  • Body Soap — Antibacterial, fragrance-free, and non-exfoliating.

  • Tattoo Ointment / Moisturizer — Provided during your appointment. You can also use Drapolene Cream or any unscented, alcohol-free moisturizer like Aveeno, Lubriderm, or Cetaphil.

  • Paper Towel or Clean Towel

  • Sunscreen

How to heal your tattoo:

  1. Keep the wrap on your tattoo for up to 24 hours. Excess ink and plasma may fill the wrap. Temporary redness or slight swelling should subside within 72 hours. If water gets inside the wrap or if you experience irritation/redness around the wrap, remove it and wash immediately.

  2. Remove the wrap. Under lukewarm/warm running water, peel up a corner and stretch or pull the wrap parallel to your skin under running water (Youtube link). Avoid pulling straight up and away like a wax strip or bandaid.
  3. Wash and dry. Clean the tattoo with mild soap to remove any ointment, blood, or plasma, then pat dry with a clean paper towel.

  4. Moisturize. Apply a thin layer of ointment daily for 1-2 weeks, only when it feels dry/tight or really itchy. Make sure the tattoo is clean and dry before applying the ointment! When your tattoo is done peeling (around 2-4 weeks), you can switch to your regular moisturizer and sunscreen.

  5. Let it peel naturally. Itching and scabbing are normal. Resist the urge to pat hard, scratch, or pick at it!

Please avoid while your tattoo is healing:

  • Exposing your tattoo to direct sunlight.

  • Tight clothing or fabrics that might rub or snag on the tattooed area.

  • Touching your tattoo with dirty hands.

  • Letting pet/s lick your tattoo.

  • Intense workouts or strenuous activities (over-stretching and excessive sweating). If it's really unavoidable, you can go for light workouts (walking, yoga, etc.) after 3 days and wash your tattoo right after.

  • Soaking or submerging the tattoo. No swimming, baths, long showers, or saunas.

Additional Info!!

  • Some folks may feel feverish after getting a tattoo. It's common if you're tired or your immune system is low. Rest for a few days and take things slow.

  • During the healing process, your tattoo may appear dry, faded, or dull. Dead skin will exfoliate on its own, and the tattoo will be vibrant again when fully healed.
  • Tattoos can still get itchy and raise months or years later due to sun exposure, temperature changes, new skin products, dry skin, allergies, or immune response. Our bodies get weird sometimes! See a dermatologist if it becomes extreme or causes rashes/blisters.

TLDR; Treat your tattoo like a wound (because it is). Keep it clean and protect it! :)
